Press Release: Purple America Fosters American Unity to Counter Political Divisiveness in 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Purple America® Fosters American Unity to Counter Political Divisiveness in 2012

Agenda is a More Cohesive, Collaborative, Engaged Nation

Cleveland, Ohio — January 9 , 2012 — In 2012, Purple America®, an initiative to foster a cohesive American identity rooted in values that are neither red nor blue, will focus its national campaign to Re-Imagine America® on building public awareness of the values that connect us, modeling civil conversation and engaging Americans to collaborate in envisioning a more positive future.  Televised discussions and podcasts, website resources and teacher-student involvement through partnership with the National Education Association (NEA) are cornerstones of the campaign to spotlight common ground.

Founded by Stuart Muszynski, a leader in training educators and students to promote school cultures that diminish and prevent bullying, Purple America will host and publicize ‘Re-Imagine America’ Values Forums in several U.S. cities throughout 2012 and spring of 2013.  “This is a time of both crisis and opportunity for civic engagement in America,” Muszynski says. “Ironically, the system most crucial to preserving American democracy -- holding elections -- is also the process that regularly tears our country apart.  Partisan media, longer campaigns, and negative campaigning have magnified this problem as never before.  Purple America is an initiative to counter the viewpoint that America is sharply divided, which is not only damaging but false, since Americans widely share many values, attitudes and opinions.”

Forums will be broadcast in markets nationwide, streamed as videos and audio podcasts, and made available for classroom, media and community use. Activities will challenge Americans to become Nation-Builders – citizens who:

·       Know and understand  the shared values for which our nation stands

·       Value a cohesive American identity over partisan bickering and personal, regional and political agendas

·       Are committed to building on our nation’s strengths through civil and productive dialog and action

·       Lead and advocate for national healing.
